Transforming Geriatric Care, Brain Health, and Social Service through Compassion

Dr. Umesh Bogati is a dedicated geriatrician and dementia specialist committed to improving the lives of older adults through compassion, clinical care, research, and advocacy. His mission is to advance brain health and equitable healthcare solutions in Nepal and beyond.

As a Consultant Geriatrician and Assistant Professor of Geriatric Medicine at Bir Hospital, National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), Kathmandu, Nepal, he focuses on geriatric health, dementia assessment, diagnosis, and care, while training healthcare professionals to improve geriatric and memory care services nationwide. He played an instrumental role in establishing the Geriatric Ward and Memory Clinic at Bir Hospital, ensuring specialized care for aging populations. He is also a Senior Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health at the Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI), University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Bogati currently serves as the President of the Geriatric Society of Nepal, leading efforts to strengthen geriatric healthcare services, promote aging-friendly policies, and enhance professional training across the country.

Beyond his medical practice, he has played a pivotal role in public health and social service initiatives. During Nepal's COVID-19 response, he served as the COVID Coordinator at Bir Hospital, where he led the establishment of COVID emergency care systems, ICU wards, and telemedicine services to ensure healthcare accessibility during the crisis.

His dedication extends to social work—he serves as the Vice-Chairperson of Shangrila Orphanage Home, actively supporting the education and well-being of underprivileged children. His advocacy for dementia awareness, age-friendly communities, and equitable healthcare access reflects his commitment to making a lasting impact on individuals and society.

Dr. Bogati is also working on creating Compassionate Communities, inspiring people to integrate compassion into patient care, social service, and everyday interactions with those in need. He believes that kindness and empathy are as vital as medical expertise in improving healthcare outcomes and fostering a more supportive society.

If you're passionate about dementia care, geriatric health, or social impact, Dr. Bogati welcomes the opportunity to collaborate. Whether it's research, policy development, training, or advocacy, he believes that collective efforts can bring meaningful change to healthcare systems and communities.
